Painted ornaments - Major Hoff Takes A Wife

Painted ornaments

Merry Merry Merry Christmas! I'm so excited about sharing this tutorial with you today. Our local Mother's of Preschooler's group decided to donate ornaments to Christmas in Dixie this year as a service project. You can see their Facebook page here:
We ended up with some extra blank ornaments, so I brought about 25 home to decorate and add to the bunch.

I found this stunning tutorial by centsational girl and thought this was an easy peasy way to make quick work of these ornaments.

You can find the tutorial here:

I was so in love with these and it was quick! BUT THEN THE BAD THING HAPPENED!
I should have read the comments beforehand, because low and behold, the answer was right there. Someone posted this would NOT work in humid areas. OOPS! I tried to get them to dry. I tried everything. After over 24 hrs, I gave up. They were streaked, uneven, and so not pretty. So since the inside was not lookin' to hot, I decided we needed to do some TLC on the outside.
That's when I found this Youtube video:

She saved my day! It was a lifesaver, and an easy technique. I had all the items needed (paint, modgepodge, and a paintbrush. Although I used blank empty ornaments, I'm sure you could use lightly colored ornaments from the dollar store! This was a bit slower, but was a lot of fun. After the paint dried I used simple vinyl phrases that I cut out with my cricut. So pretty! I hope you get a chance to make these one of a kind, handmade ornaments!

Today I'm linking up with Centsational Girl!
