MOEN WALDEN FAUCET REVIEW:
I was so thrilled when I was given the opportunity to test a Moen Walden Faucet and tell my readers about it. About 2 months before I received the reviewing request our builder grade faucet went kaput. Well, it didn’t break exactly. It just merely shot water out with the pressure of Niagara Falls. Our sink was also the standard bottom of the barrel builder grade sink basin. See the lovely bar in the middle? See how it is even with the entire sink? That meant that when the insane volts of water were spraying, anything that hit it tended to either spray me, or flood off the sink onto the counter or the floor. I spent more time wet than my dishes did! So when I was contacted by Moen— I secretly wanted to ask them if they had literally heard my prayers to have the faucet replaced. To make the saga even better, the next day I found a sink basin display from Lowes at our local Habitat for Humanity Restore for 70% off what it would have cost at the Big Blue Store. So yes, we are talking DIVINE INTERVENTION here people!
I was so excited when this guy arrived. He’s so stately and classy and elegant and wonderful and beautiful and to make it even better—he doesn’t have a bipolar desire to spray water uncontrollably! This is what the box looks like (& also the packed contents). The Walden Faucet is exclusively available at the Home Depot. So if you are headed there to purchase this guy, now you know what to look for!
I was fully prepared to install the faucet myself, but my Dad just happened to be visiting, and well……no one wants to put a handyman in the corner. I’m glad he helped me because he did a few things that I don’t think I would have necessarily done. First of all, in a miracle to end all miracles, my Dad (A Man!) read the directions!!!! I wouldn’t have caught hubs doing that one! The next thing was that we dry fitted the faucet and all the parts. This was just to give us a quick run through of how things would work. It is smarter to do this ahead of time (connecting things loosely) so you can see if you did something wrong.
In the picture above you can see the faucet pieced together in the box, stretched out on the floor, and how it was attached to the sink basin from above and underneath. I had things a bit easier because my sink wasn’t dropped into my countertops yet. So no little tight spots to fit into. But never fear, Moen has even thought of that! Check out the nifty tool they have included. It works like a wrench for tightening, but it fits way better!
If you noticed in the picture above, my sink has 4 holes. Since the Walden faucet has the pulldown wand, there is no need for a side sprayer. Moen thought of everything, and has included a soap dispenser. This thing is so awesome. The top pulls out easily so you can refill from the top. I am so excited about not having a dish soap bottle on my counter!
Once we finished putting the faucet onto the sink basin, it was unbelievably easy to finish the installation. Once the sink was in place (in a post to come later), I simply had to hook the hot water and cold water hoses up. Before you do that, make sure you have shut the water off! We had two controls to switch, and I placed towels down (and a small pillow for my aching back). It was a simple untwist the old hoses and twist on the new ones. Turn the water back on, and double check that you didn’t mix up the hot/cold hoses. We actually managed to get it right the first time! The installation was pretty pain free and ranked extremely low on the cussing scale, I don’t remember uttering a single swear word (a rarity on home improvement projects)!
Here are some more pictures of the beauty in all his glory:
The Walden faucet has so many neat features. There are so many that I love, that might not be visible at first glance. First, it features Microban Protection. What does that mean? It prevents bacteria from growing on the faucet. Um, I have 4 boys. I like any germ prevention I can get! I took that microbiology class last year and have since been super alert on where bacteria thrive, and a sink handle is prime place people! I am so excited about this added protection!
Another feature the Walden offers is Spot Resist. Remember those four boys I mentioned before? We have a total of 12 hands touching the faucet all day long. My boys don’t care about splashing water, or wiping the faucet down, or if they get their peanut butter streaked fingers all over the handle. Moen’s Spot Resist solves a lot of problems for me. It keeps the finish the same by resisting the fingerprints and water spots. I simply wipe down with a damp soft cloth and buff with a dry soft cloth. It looks brand spanking new! So fabulous!
The Walden faucet offers 2 water flow settings: spray or aerated. This is a nice added bonus for those times when you need a custom flow to get stubborn stains. The Walden keeps it elegant, classic, vintage-inspired design in tact by placing the magic button to change the flow beneath the wand. No giant black button on top to throw off the design. I love this little hidden gem. The wand also pulls out so I can reach around the sink to spray it down, or to pull it down to fill a pot. The beautiful thing about the wand is that it has Moen’s Reflex system, which means it self retracts. My old faucet had a weight on the hose, but our builder did not install it correctly, so if I used the wand, I had to manually feed it back through. That was beyond annoying. This one slides like butter! It’s amazing!
Are you thinking about maybe making the splurge and purchasing a Moen Walden Faucet or similar model? Still uneasy about installation? Well, rest assured, I have faith you can do it. Moen has been in the business long enough to know that sometimes homeowners need a little support. The kit comes with a step by step guide. They also offer installation videos on their website, Moen.com. Still feeling uneasy? Just like Butterball has the Turkey Hotline, Moen has a # to call and speak with trained product consultants. And if all else fails and you really don’t have the time to install yourself, Moen can recommend a local plumber that they have developed a relationship with in your area.
I can’t really express in words how great the faucet is. My husband is very grateful because I suddenly want to do dishes. AMAZING! There is just something so cheerful, fresh and clean about my new setup. To remind you again, here is the before:
Now for the best part. Moen has graciously provided me with another kitchen faucet to giveaway to one of you—my marvelous readers and fans! Squeal! I’m so excited to offer this to you. They have provided me with a Moen Indi Kitchen Faucet (MSRP $238) that touts the same benefits that the Moen Walden faucet features (Spot Resist, Microban, reflex) along with a 3 function pull down wand. All in a sleek contemporary style! Isn’t she pretty?

Looks great, I love the separate soap dispenser and the pull down wand is much more functional than separate spray in my opinion.

Thank you! What a timely article. I'm moving into a new apartment next month and am going to replace the gross faucets with my own.
