Homemade Christmas Gifts 2014 : Homemade Christmas ornaments personalized for your friends & family
I can remember growing up as a kid, making homemade Christmas ornaments. My mom still has many of those that we made. I also loved personalized ornaments and found that they make wonderful homemade Christmas Gifts. Everyone loves them. So in the spirit of festive giving, I came up with this easy peasy glittered star ornament that is easy to personalize. The pictures don’t do it justice. I need to take lessons on taking pictures of glitter! It’s hard y’all! My ornament today is serving double duty. You will see it as a part of the Holidays Made Easy Blog Series, but also in another post today, the Home for the Holidays Blog Tour. Because it just couldn’t be an ornament, huh? Nope! I used these delightful little wooden stars as place settings! Double duty! So yes, they could be used as Christmas tree decorations, but you can also think outside of the box a bit with these.
Roll up a napkin, and slip these over and you now have a name card for your table settings!
The best part is how inexpensive and cheap these are to make!
So let’s get started!
The first thing you need is the stars. I found mine in the wood working area at Hobby Lobby for 29 cents each. They also sell them at Michaels. They are fairly small (about 4 inches long maybe?).
You will also need some paint. I used 2 for this. My first layer was DecoArt Dazzling Metallic acrylic paint. My second coat was FolkArt Chunky Glitter acrylic paint. The glitter is super hard to photograph, but I love how it catches the light. It was easy to use, and less messy than DIY’ing glitter.
This was after the first coat.
This is right after applying the second coat. The glitter acts more like a paste than a paint. But it does dry clear and is a very cool way to add on glitter!
I used a drill to drill holes for the ribbon to go through. It was hard to get a picture. I’m not really drilling here, so my countertops are safe!
I used my Cricut and vinyl to personalize the ornaments. You could also use a stencil or a Sharpie as well. Here are the letters laid out, before I pulled off the transfer tape.
Four ornaments almost ready to go! Just need to tie a ribbon!
So what do you think? Will you be making these for special people in your life? I think they could look so cool hanging from a present or gift bag! I’ll be making lots more!
