Are you looking for you more Holiday inspiration? Thinking of having a more creative Christmas this year? Trying to buckle down on the purse strings? I’m trying to hit all 3 of those things this year! I was so excited when Royal Design Studio sent me some of Jennifer Rizzo’s stencils and her new book, Creatively Chritmas Inspired Yuletide Decor  to review. Talk about inspiration overload! I’m all about the easy things in life, so I in order to bring Yuletide charm into my house, with the least amount of work, I used “blanks”. By “blanks” I mean a blank canvas pillow cover (already sewn! Yay!) and a relatively blank Kitchen towel. The pillow cover I found at Hobby Lobby, and the towel was part of a 2 pair set from TJ Maxx. I loved the ticking stripe going down it, like a grain sack, but thought it needed a little more “oomph”. This is one of the easiest projects ever. The hardest part is picking your stencils!

Let’s see how the project came together!

First, I laid out my stencils, and the book. The blanks, and two sponge brushes and some paint.
The stencils I picked were:

The pillow cover was easy. I did the little leaf pattern on one side of the pillow, washed the stencil off and then flipped it so I could do the other half down below. You can see where I blot my sponge brush in the corner to get extra paint off, and to have a stash to grab if I need more. The trick to stenciling is to “pounce”, basically drop the sponge brush down and back up. Don’t try to “paint” back and forth, or your project will bleed.

For the towel, I worked with each letter separately. I would wait for each one to dry before moving onto the next one. Once I did a letter, I washed and dried the stencil. You can see I have my table set up assembly line style. I love doing more than one project at a time because usually by the time one stencil has dried, I can go back to the other one, etc.

I used just the head from the whole reindeer stencil I had, and I love the way the little guy fits! We actually saw real reindeer on our trip to Alaska. We even tried Reindeer Sausage! We joked that Rudolph would be so mad at us he wouldn’t bring Santa to our house that year. But never fear, all was forgiven!

The towel is hanging in my kitchen, and I love how the Noel added more charm to it! Super simple!

I love how cheery and seasonal the pillow is. I can’t wait until Hobby Lobby gets more in so I can make some more!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Special thanks to Royal Design Studio for providing me with the stencils and the book.

  1. I love your pillows! I've been meaning to put out more Christmas-y pillows for years, but it never seems to happen. Maybe next year! I'll pin this to remind myself. :P
