You guys—I’m so excited about today’s blog hop!!! For the first time ever, I’m the host! WOW! I love blog hops! They are such a great way to get to know other bloggers and visit sites you might not have been to before. The bloggers in today’s hop are Ahhhh-mazing! I’m proud to call them all friends too! The premise to this hop is simple. We all purchased a plain wooden pumpkin from Hobby Lobby and were allowed free reign! One blank pumpkin, 8 creative bloggers. It’s really astounding to see how different all the pumpkins turned out. Seriously, my friends have skills! They each created something unique and we all used different techniques, styles and materials. I’ll show you how I made mine, and then down below you’ll be able to click on each bloggers picture to be taken straight to their pumpkin page. Since we are real life friends, who talk all the time, we had a super laid back group name for the project. We called ourselves “The Pumpkin Smashers” and it sort of fit.
I initially designed my pumpkin to go on my fireplace mantel, but then changed my mind. I didn’t think it popped as much as I wanted it to, so I moved it over to my dining room buffet, which I have decorated for Halloween. You can see that post HERE. I only had to rearrange a few things and now I LOVE it there! I was able to make the pumpkin with supplies I received at the Haven conference and I’m excited to tell you about them. So let’s get started!
I made this pumpkin in just under and hour. The longest part was the drying of the paint.
This is the blank pumpkin we all started with. We purchased ours at Hobby Lobby, but you can find similar unfinished wood pieces at Michaels or Joann Fabrics. Please ignore my stellar iPhone photography skills.
I decided to paint mine a pale taupe to go with the white pumpkins that are becoming popular now. I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Cathedral Taupe. The wood is very porous, so it did take 2 coats, but they dried very quickly. The paint smooths very nicely as well.
To jazz up the pumpkin, I used DecoArt Metallic Lustre in orange flicker. This stuff is amazing! You simply dip your finger in it and rub it where you want it. I used a circle cutter as a template because I had it on hand. Once the lustre dries, you buff it a bit and it shines. It is so cool looking, and I wish my camera could have caught the shimmer it produces. Amazon doesn’t seem to have the orange in stock, but here is a link to the copper color. Clean up is a breeze. Simply wash your hands, or wipe your fingers with baby wipes!
I spread the polkadots out all over the pumpkin. You can see a bit of the glimmer here in this photo.
To finish the pumpkin off, I traced the stem onto a glittery sheet of scrapbook paper. I simply glued it on with an Elmer’s glue stick. I’m always using those little glue sticks for everything under the sun! After the glue was set, I tied a cute little piece of burlap ribbon around the stem.
I decided to relocate the spider I had on the chalkboard earlier this week. I placed him right on the pumpkin and it was cute as can be! You can find my original post about this little cutie HERE.
So that’s my pumpkin! What do you think? Are you excited to see the others? Please be sure to visit the bloggers and let them know what you think!
A special thanks to the bloggers that participated in this hop! I truly appreciate them taking time out of their blogging schedules and sharing their creativity!

Great project! I like the bit of shine on the polka dots. It's fun to see what others do with the same project isn't it? I do craft days with friends sometimes and everyone always has a slightly different interpretation and it's really cool to see the differences.
Thanks for sharing with us as the #HomeMattersParty link party
