I decided to try my hand at the Fab Flipping Contest this past month. Have you heard of it? It’s a fabulous contest put on every month by some awesome bloggers!
The theme for September was “Geometric”. Lynn and Carrie kicked it off with these amazing redo’s:
How great are those? In addition to the theme being “Geometric”, the sponsor for this month was General Finishes. General Finishes offers a wide range of painting supplies. They carry non-traditional Milk Paint (Not made with milk, but reminiscent of the old look of milk paint) and Gel Stains. I’ve used them in the past and have been very pleased with their products, so I was excited to work with them again during this makeover. As a bonus, General Finishes sent me a can of Driftwood Milk Paint.
( Some or all of the hosts of The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest receive monetary and/or product compensation from the sponsoring brand, General Finishes, in order to complete their themed projects. General Finishes will also provide the prize package for the contest winner.)
I decided to redo this desk and hutch that I scored for $20. I wanted it in our living room, but didn’t want another dark piece.
The top had suffered a bit of damage, and the keyboard drawer need a bit of help.
I decided to try out my Finish Max Paint Sprayer and their paint shelter/tent. I tried to wait until it wasn't a million degrees in Texas, but had no such luck.
I think my neighbors thought I was nuts.
I did have to thin the paint, but OMG, it was amazing to spray! It came out so smoothly, it is like butter. I didn’t have drips or clumps. It is the smoothest paint job I’ve had on any piece of furniture.
Since the theme was “geometric” I added a stencil. I know, real original, huh?
I used a lighter shade of gray that I had hanging around.
My stencil spray left a little residue, but I was able to sand it down (but here is a pic so you can see).
And here it is, in my living room! I apologize for the pictures, apparently I live in a super dark cave.
I added a chair in a lighter color, with a fabric pattern that matches both paints, and mimics the geometric design on the drawer.
Here’s what the chair looked like before:
Here’s a closer look at the stencil design
Here you can see the keyboard drawer flipped open. All fixed now!
The drawer again.

Nice transformation, I really have one of those tents on my wish list as I need to spray outside as well. It's hot down here in S Florida as well, but also rains every afternoon. I see quite a few morning painting jobs in the near future!
