I love a good makeover, don’t you? There is something so refreshing about taking something old, worn, scarred, beaten and broken and giving it a new life. This little dresser with 3 drawers came to me in bad shape. Missing some original hardware, lots of veneer that was chipping, and stains galore. Oh, and it was dirty and smelly. But with a little bit of love, a lot of elbow grease, a helping of Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Linen, and this piece has a new lease on life.
The dresser has a broken foot in the front. I looked and looked and couldn’t find another match. I finally admitted defeat and decided to embrace the flaw. Because I’m sure there is a story behind the broken foot. The missing hardware was easy to find on Ebay, but not so easy on my wallet. See the shine from who knows what? Ewww. It had some weird nastiness going on.
I had considered sanding down the top and leaving it a beautiful wood top. But these stains were stubborn. And I decided paint would probably cover more flaws.
Here you can see close ups of the stains, gauges, grime and who knows what else. The dresser has seen better days before for sure.
It’s hard to take pictures indoors. Capturing the color and details in my hallway where this dresser now resides is tricky. Please forgive my photography faults.
I love the magic of Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. This is after the second coat. You can see the “magic” starting to happen. I get a little thrill when I see that crackling. It’s working!
This is the same area after I used a scraper to take off the crackling bits. So vintage looking, eh?
MAGIC peeps. Pure Magic!
The dresser had a beautiful curve down at the bottom that I adore.
Right now it’s in the hall, but it may find it’s way into my master bedroom.
Since I couldn’t bite the bullet on the pulls from ebay ($17 each!), I settled for these from Hobby Lobby.
The Linen color is perfect. I know people complain about how everyone uses white, but let’s be honest—that is where Shabby Chic started.
and Classic is classic. You can’t go wrong.
If you noticed, off to the left, in the other hallway, my kids have power cords and dirty laundry on the floor (you know, right next to the hamper).
We can always use more organization, so that is what the new dresser is doing for us now.
I lined the drawers with this awesome liner that I found on amazon.com. I love that they have so many fun designs. Nothing boring or standard!
Check out the fun chevron pattern! (I might have bought that one too!)
The top drawer is a catch all, the middle is for wrapping paper, bags, tissue paper and bows. The bottom drawer—that’s for sports equipment/clothes that my older boys have grown out of, but the little boys haven’t grown into yet. So what do you think?

This makeover is gorgeous! I took her class at SNAP, but I haven't had the courage to get started. This is very motivating. I LOVE how it turned out!

Gretchen, it really is great. In Texas, in the summer I can't really paint in the heat. I can use this in the house though. It's a very unique look that I love! You can do it! The class is very helpful. She has a ton of youtube videos too!

What a GREAT transformation. Amazing!
MrsMajor Hoff says
It is really easy. And hey, if it doesn't work out--just paint over it. You can add a bonding agent to her paint too if you don't want it to chip 🙂
