Easiest way to get those price tags off! Learn the non-toxic way to remove sticky tags off of glass. No more gunk left behind!
I’m sure you’ve noticed that all over the blogosphere its really cool right now to be painting glass bottles, especially mason jars. I love the colored glass look, but hate the price of vases. So I decided to pick up some glass from Dollar Tree and try to see if the same method used on mason jars would work on Dollar Tree glass. The good news is—yes! It did, and my worst fear of the vase shattering in the oven did not happen. SCORE! Here was the end result…..
Pretty pretty pretty!!!! I’m going to share more about the yea’s and oops! of this experiment later this week. Today I wanted to concentrate on something that applies to a lot of glass items we all buy—those nasty, irritating sales tags that are so sticky and just leave a bunch of yuck behind!!!
A long time ago, my Mom told me how to take care of this. For a few years I rebelled and bought a common store item that I’m sure we all know what the name of it is. It’s expensive. It’s stinky. and eventually it bugged my asthma. So back to the way Mama showed, which is of course, less expensive, and not stinky at all. So here is where we start (because the label NEVER EVER just peels off, huh!)
Now for the major ingredients. Don’t be shocked. I know you will be. Because you probably already have them in your house. Wait for it——
Seriously, vegetable oil (olive oil works fine, probably any kind of oil) and baking soda. Seriously. That easy. Make a paste. I usually do equal parts. Smear it on the label. Let it sit a few, rub it in again, and wash. Sometimes it takes 2 cycles. After the gunk is removed I wash with a dish soap like Dawn, Palmolive, etc, to remove any oil residue. I know that the baking soda works as a mild abrasive, but I’m not sure why it all works together. I don’t question these things. I just sigh and smile because that nasty tag is gone.
Easy peazy!!! And now your jars are ready for displaying or painting. More on that later. Do you have any great tips from your Mother that you’d like to share with me? Or another way to take off labels? I’d love to hear from you!
Have a great week everyone!!!!!
I believe EVERYONE has a story, this blog shares mine.
